Former RPI hockey coach Buddy Powers appears to be headed back to the coaching ranks.
U.S. Hockey Report is reporting that the 57-year-old Powers will be named an assistant coach for Boston University's Jack Parker. Powers will replace associate head coach David Quinn, who recently became head coach of the AHL’s Lake Erie Monsters.
Assistant coach Mike Bavis has been promoted to associate head coach.
Powers is a 1975 BU graduate. He coached RPI from 1989-94 and compiled a 94-63-13 record. Under Powers, the Engineers reached the ECAC Hockey tournament championship game in 1990 and 1994, and made the NCAA tournament in 1994.
He left RPI to coach Bowling Green, where he had a 135-149-26 in eight seasons. Powers was serving as arena director at Bowling Green while also providing color commentary on Bowling Green hockey telecasts.
