Love Pierre McGuire. I would say he has revolutionized hockey broadcasting with being able to analyze the game from between the benches, which NBC refers to as "Inside the Glass."
McGuire had a great vantage point of the Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook drilling the Red Wings forward Dan Cleary into the Chicago bench early in the first period. He was quick to describe the play and the fact that, because the Red Wings were short-handed, they got caught with too many men on the ice when Cleary was able to escape the Chicago bench.
If you don't have someone down at ice level, maybe the analyst in the booth doesn't see that.
