Frozen Four semifinals picks

It’s Frozen Four time in Washington. And what a strange final four we have.

One team, top-ranked Boston University, was expected to be in the mix. But the other three teams? Who would have thought?

Miami (Ohio) was a fourth seed in the West Regional. Vermont was No. 3 in the East. Both teams didn’t even reach their conference semifinals.

Then there is Bemidji State. The College Hockey American tournament champs were not only the fourth seed in the Midwest, they were the tournament’s 16th seed. So, what do the Beavers do? They stun Notre Dame, 5-1, in the semifinal, and beat Cornell, 4-1, in the final.

So, it will be an intriguing tournament. Will BU win it, or will the chaos that has engulfed the tournament continue?

Here are my semifinal picks.
First semifinal — Bemidji State 4, Miami (Ohio) 2. Got to love the Beavers.
Second semifinal — Boston U. 3, Vermont 2. My heart wants to pick Vermont because of former Union coach Kevin Sneddon, but my head says go with Jack Parker.

The games will be televised by ESPN2, starting at 5 p.m. Gary Thorne and Barry Melrose will call the action.

I'll have my championship game pick Friday night.

I'm glad to see that you are picking Bemigji to win in the semi-finals. It would be nice to have at least one winning hockey team in the State of Hockey!!

Thank you for your comment Wildfan! We shall see if the Beavers can win it all for the State of Hockey, especially since the Wild won't be in the Stanley Cup playoffs!
