It's time for the NFL to come to its senses. It's time for the league to tell the Deroit Lions that you won't be playing on Thanksgiving Day unitl you become a competitive team.
I didn't turn on Thursday's game against the Tennessee Titans until late in the second quarter. The Titans were up, 35-3. I have the game on as background noise while I write my weekend college hockey advance. The woeful Lions will be 0-12.
CBS' "The NFL Today" crew agrees with me. Here are their comments:
BILL COWHER: "The game has become a part of tradition. Right now, that tradition should be able to be shared by everybody in the country. Every team should have an opportunity to host this game, not just always in Detroit."
SHANNON SHARPE (aka "The Unknown Tight End" wearing a bag over his head): "This is not very good. We have kids watching this. This is the most watched football game of the year because everyone is sitting around the television eating Thanksgiving dinner watching football, and they have to watch the Detroit Lions … This is ridiculous. The Detroit Lions every single year. This is what we have to go through."
BOOMER ESIASON: "Unless my former [University of Maryland] roommate and former Buffalo Bills quarterback, Frank Reich, is coming out of that locker room – the Lions have no shot!"
