Update on college hockey and basketball TV schedules
Time for an update on the college hockey and basketball broadcast schedules for later this week.
– Let’s start with the ECAC Hockey tournament final four at the Times Union Center. Earlier today, I wrote that Time Warner Cable channel 3 will show the semifinals and championship game. Well, there has been a change.
Time Warner is only getting Friday’s semifinals, but is being shut out of showing Saturday’s final. ECACH commissioner Steve Hagwell said SportsNet New York (SNY) and Comcast’s CN8, which is in the Boston and Philadelphia markets, will show the final.
NHL Network (sports digital tier channel 675) will also show the semifinals live, and will televise the final on take at 3 p.m. Sunday. SNY (channel 66) will have the semifinals on tape Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
“We’re not blacking out anyone,” Hagwell said.
Greg Bobbitt, general manager and executive producer for Time Warner Sports-Albany, doesn’t understand why TW-3 can’t show the final. TW-3 expanded its local college hockey coverage with Union and RPI this season.
“It’s a league decision, I guess,” Bobbitt said.
Now, the semifinals may end up on TW-1, which is only available to subscribers with a digital cable box. TW-3 would be free to show some of CBS’s NCAA men’s basketball tournament games.
One other thing that doesn’t make sense. Time Warner-Syracuse is producing the telecasts. Why isn’t Time Warner-Albany doing it? These games are being played in Albany, not Syracuse.
– WRGB (Ch. 6) announced its Thursday NCAA basketball tournament broadcast schedule.
The games that will be available on channel 6, Time Warner Cable channel 1806 and digital channel 6.1 are Temple-Michigan State at 12:30 p.m., Kentucky-Marquette at 2:30 p.m., Belmont-Duke at 7:10 p.m. and George Mason-Notre Dame at 9:40 p.m.
The games on Time Warner Cable channel 1896 and digital channel 6.3 are Georgia-Xavier at 12:20 p.m., Kent State-UNLV at 2:45 p.m., Texas A&M-BYU at 7:25 p.m. and Arizona-West Virginia at 9:30 p.m.
