A quick thought about Union's first-round bye before I head home to lose my goatee and sideburns.
The Dutchmen didn't put forth the greatest effort against Brown on Saturday. The Bears did earn the 2-0 win, but the Dutchmen helped out by taking bad penalties.
Brendan Milnamow and Torren Delforte got penalties early in the second period to give Brown a two-man advantage. Sean Hurley made them pay by scoring on it.
Delforte's tripping penalty late in the third, when Union was pressing for the tying goal, was a momentum killer. Ryan Garbutt's power-play goal sealed the win.
That ruined what should have a celebration of Union's first-ever first-round bye. It's an incredible accomplishment for a program that doesn't offer athletic scholarships, and for a team that was picked to finish last by the coaches and media in the preseason poll.
The week off will do the Dutchmen good. They can get healthy, and get that flu bug out of the locker room.
That's all from Meehan Auditorium. Time to head home and face the razor.
"Good Night, Good Hockey!"
