MSG to televise Woodward Stakes
Monday, August 25, 2008

Some TV and radio notes for you on the final Monday of August.

— There will be one more race to be televised from Saratoga Race Course.

MSG will have live coverage of the Woodward Stakes at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Do you think it has anything to do with superstar horse Curlin racing in it?

— WNYT (Ch. 13) will carry the New England Patriots-New York Giants preseason game at 7 p.m. Thursday. That will pre-empt the NBC telecast of the Jacksonville-Washington game at the same time.

— WCWN (Ch. 45) will have the New York Jets-Philadelphia Eagles preseason game at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

— WOFX-AM (980) will have a conflict Saturday with UAlbany football and the Mets. The station will air the Great Danes game against Massachusetts at 6 p.m., and join the Mets-Marlins game after the football game.

— With WRGB scheduled to show the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon next Monday, WCWN will carry the U.S. Open tennis tournament starting at 11 a.m.

— ESPN and the Southeastern Conference signed a 15-year contract Monday. ESPN gets the rights to all of the SEC home football games, except those aired by CBS, the SEC’s other TV partner. ESPN will expand its SEC basketball coverage from one to three nights, and ABC will televise the SEC tournament semifinals and final.

ESPN Regional Television takes over the syndication contract for Raycom. Syndicated SEC games are seen in the Capital Region on MY4 (WNYA).

Question?
What if WNYT's pre-emption with the Giants game goes longer then NBC's regulary scheduled Jacksonville-Washington game, into NBC's Democratic convention coverage, at 10pm. Will WNYT just stop the (I'm assuming WNBC) feed of the giants game and switch over to NBC's political coverage?

WNBC will be in the same boat as WNYT, so I imagine they will either run the game to conclusion, or get out at 10 p.m. WCBS could be in the same boat with the Jets-Eagles game. I would bet the convention organizers have their bases covered.
