Benedit Cumberbatch will be back to sleuthing soon.

Sexy is back

"Sherlock" will return for season three on Jan. 19 as part of the mystery series on PBS. The show will join the fourth season of "Downton Abbey," which crosses the Atlantic on Jan. 5.

There will be three episodes in the season, according to imdb, which follows the model of the first two seasons. When we last left Sherlock, he had somehow managed to fake his own death and that could explain why the first episode of the season is called "The Empty Hearse." The second episode is the "Sign of Three" and the final episode of the season is "His Last Vow."

The show also stars Martin Freeman as Dr. John Watson.

The first images from the season are available on Entertainment Weekly.

It has been a long wait for this show's return, which was delayed because of how popular the two leads have become since the show debuted in 2010. Cumberbatch has been in the Stark Trek franchise and is currently in "The Fifth Estate" and Freeman recorded three "Hobbit" movies.

It's not yet clear whether the stars will align for a fourth season, but I hope it comes together.
