UPDATE 1
Siena 14, Fairfield 6, 15:48 left first half
Every time Fairfield has scored, it's taken Siena about four seconds to get down the court and answer with an easy bucket.
The Saints are 6-for-7. The only miss was Kenny Hasbrouck's three-point attempt to start the game.
UPDATE 2
Siena 27, Fairfield 11, 10:41 left
Siena is now 5-for-5 scoring within five seconds of a Fairfield basket.
Kenny Hasbrouck just made a three from the left corner to answer a three by Lyndon Jordan.
For the second game in a row, Edwin Ubiles is on the bench with two fouls early.
Before I even had a chance to post this, we have another timeout after Clarence Jackson hit a three and Ryan Rossiter dunked on a breakaway started by Kenny Hasbrouck's steal.
UPDATE 3
Siena 28, Fairfield 11, 10:09 left
Fairfield coach Ed Cooley got a technical at 10:41. Rossiter made one of two
UPDATE 4
Siena 28, Fairfield 16, timeout 7:51 left
Siena is getting a little sloppy with the ball.
Herbie Allen just hit a three for Fairfield to cut the deficit to 12.
UPDATE 5
Siena 46, Fairfield 21, 1:48 left
Siena is 19-for-30 from the field. What else is there to say?
The Saints' transition from defense to offense, even after Fairfield's made baskets, is easy to miss if you're trying to keep notes on the game.
HALFTIME
Rossiter has 12 points and five rebounds and got a nice standing ovation when he took the bench with 6:38 left.
The Saints have gotten to the point where they're using more clock in each possession.
You don't see that in the first half very often.
UPDATE 6
Siena 53, Fairfield 35, 16:20 left in the second half
Before I forget, Ronald Moore had 10 assists in the first half.
In the meantime, Siena has two players hurt already in the opening moments, Alex Franklin and Kenny Hasbrouck.
Franklin landed on his tailbone contesting a rebound with Greg Nero on the first play of the half, but he's back now. Hasbrouck just limped to the locker room after stealing a pass at midcourt and flipping it to Ronald Moore for a breakaway layup to make it 53-29.
Hasbrouck hit his leg on someone in the process and was grasping the back of his right calf.
Fairfield is making threes to chip away a little bit.
UPDATE 7
Siena 58, Fairfield 38, 13:42 left
Herbie Allen hit the second of his two threes in the half, and the fourth for Fairfield in the half, to cut it to 58-38.
No sign of Hasbrouck yet.
UPDATE 8
Siena 68, Fairfield 41, 7:44 left
This is what Marv call extended gar-bahge time.
It's gotten to this: NCAA basketball mascot J.J. Jumper, a frog-like creature with orange hair, just came over and patted me on the back and "talked" on the courtside, as I muttered "You cannot stand there, you cannot stand there" while he blocked my view of the court.
Still no Hasbrouck. I suspect he's got a bag of ice the size of J.J. Jumper's head on his leg in the training room.
UPDATE 9
The backups didn't hold down the fort well enough, so Siena coach Fran McCaffery just called timeout and put his starters, except for Hasbrouck and Rossiter, back in with 5:18 left and the Saints up by 19.
FINAL UPDATE
Ronald Moore finished with a tournament-record 14 assists.
