Olympian Travis Stevens of the Jason Morris Judo Center in Glenville will have a first-round matchup with Franklin Cisneros of El Salvador, it was determined at the draw last night at the Judo venue.
If Stevens wins, he will face the winner of the match between Ole Bischof of Germany and 2004 Olympic fifth-place finisher Mekman Azizov of Azerbaijan. If Stevens wins that bout, he will likely be up against 2007 world champion Tiago Camilo or 2005 world bronze medalist Takashi Ono in the quarterfinals.
Stevens has never faced Cisneros, lost to Azizov in the quarterfinal of the 2008 French Open and lost a tight battle to Ono in the second round of the 2008 Austrian Open earlier this year.
Travis' training has been going well. It's going to be exciting to see how he reacts and performs.
