On Tuesday at 3 p.m., northbound motorists on I-87 were invited to reflect about war at Exit 8 through a banner that read, “War = Security?”
Peace Works, a local activist peace building group, hung the banner on the overpass in time to catch home coming rush hour traffic.
As the banner was being hung, a Clifton Park Security car (the local constabulary) drove by and did not feel the need to stop.
Several motorists (both on the overpass and I-87) honked their horns and waved as the activists hung the banner and returned the waves. All of the activists are fluent in “car horn” and reported that the honks and beeps were definitely supportive and friendly.
A view of the back banner from the overpass can be seen by clicking HERE. The activists said that it was too cold to walk down to the off ramp to get a photograph of it from the front.
The activists promise additional pithy and reflection-inducing banners along I-87 in the near future. Like next week.
