I do not yet have my peace museum, but if I did, the three people that wold be honored in the museum's hall of fame would be local citizens Ed Bloch, Trudy Quaif and Steve Wickham.
All three people donate hours of time each and every month by working for peace. They are either speaking at, or organizing, rallies and events, making phone calls, stuffing envelopes, meeting with legislators and, in Trudy's case, running the Bethlehem Neighbors for Peace's (BNP) “gift shop without walls” as I like to call it.
BNP sells books, posters and some real clever T-shirts, buttons and bumper stickers to raise funds for their various projects. Trudy can often be seen at events running the gift shop, which she also sets up, packs up and transports.
It appears that the local Veterans for Peace Chapter 10 would do the same. They intend to honor these hard-working peace folks with the Tom Pain Winter Soldier Peace and Justice Award on Thursday, Oct. 15.
The awards dinner and presentations will be held at Evans Public House, social hour beginning at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m., on Route 20 (Western Avenue) immediately across from the Guilderland Center Office Complex, about a quarter of a mile past 146E.
Music will be provided by Steel Street Rose, one of the newest bands on the Capital District music scene.
Reservations are required by Oct. 9 and can be made by contacting Dan Wilcox at 482-0262 or at dwlcx@earthlink.net . The cost is $30 per person – a real bargain for dinner and dancing. Please make your check out to Veterans For Peace. On the memo line please write awards dinner. Mail your check to:
