Area officials have selected Schenectady High School as the site for the upcoming Section II Class B football championship.
The game at newly renovated Larry Mulvaney Field is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7, at 1 p.m. Steve Boynton, Schenectady’s assistant athletic director, said Section II officials selected Mulvaney Field because of the size of the facility, the new artificial turf and its central location.
The Class B final will be the first major event at the facility that does not include a Schenectady High School team.
The Class B semifinals are this weekend (dates and times have yet to be confirmed by Section II), with Schalmont hosting Cohoes and Lansingburgh hosting Hudson Falls, the 2008 champ. Schalmont beat Albany Academy Friday night for its first playoff win in program history, while Cohoes eliminated Cobleskill-Richmondville, Lansingburgh beat Broadalbin-Perth and Hudson Falls ousted Hudson in other Class B quarterfinals.
Other sectional quarterfinal winners were Schenectady, Ballston Spa, Saratoga Springs and Guilderland in Class AA; Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, Niskayuna, Gloversville and Troy in Class A; Hoosick Falls, Chatham, Granville and Cambridge in Class C; and Saratoga Catholic in Class D.
Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons will host Warrensburg Sunday at 3 p.m. in the other Class D quarterfinal. Rensselaer and Greenwich earned Class D quarterfinal byes.
