Glens Falls to formally welcome new AHL team

Mayor Jack Diamond will officially welcome the city's new American Hockey League team, the Adirondack Phantoms to Glens Falls at 11 a.m. in the civic center's Heritage Hall.

Joining Diamond for the announcement will be owners Jim and Rob Brooks, of the Brooks Group; Comcast-Spectacor President and Global Spectrum Chairman Peter Luukko; Philadelphia Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren, and Jason Blumenfeld, civic center general manager.

Registrations for season tickets will be accepted.

So is Adirondack Phantoms officially there name Phil or is that just what you guys are calling them right now? I did not see anything official saying they were keeping the Phantoms name that is why I am asking.

Not that the name is a big deal -- the important thing is that they're playing there -- but "Adirondack Flyers" sounds so much better than "Adirondack Phantoms."

My understanding is that they are keeping the Phantoms "brand" that they established in Philly and will carry with them when they move back to PA. All of their season ticket literature refers to the team as the Adirondack Phantoms. Keeping "Adirondack" allows them to feel as if they have some sort of link to the previous AHL team there though, personally, I think it's a stretch.

To rdf no it is not a big deal I agree I was just wondering. I agree I am happy they are playing up there so the Rats can have there rivals back. Thanks for the info Phil.
