Several former and future Albany River Rats will be in Traverse City, Mich. for the 2009 NHL Prospects Tournament Sept. 6-10.
It is the first time Albany's parent team, the Carolina Hurricanes, have sent a team to the event, which wraps up two days before the formal opening of training camp.
The tournament is hosted by the Detroit Red Wings. Carolina last competed in a rookie tournament in Ottawa in 2005.
Rats head coach Jeff Daniels and assistant Geordie Kinnear will coach the Canes' team, which includes forwards Zach Boychuk, Brandon Sutter, Chris Terry, Harrison Reed, Stefan Chaput and Nick Dodge and defenseman Brett Bellemore, who have all spent time in an Albany uniform.
Also on the roster are top prospects like forwards Drayson Bowman, Philippe Paradis, defenseman Jamie McBain and goaltender Mike Murphy.
In the round-robin format, Carolina will have games against prospects from the N.Y. Rangers on Sept. 6, Detroit on Sept. 7 and Atlanta on Sept. 9. A championship game will be played on Sept 10.
Represented in the tournament are prospects from Detroit, Carolina, Atlanta, St. Louis, Dallas, Minnesota, Columbus and the Rangers. Games take place at Centre Ice Arena in Traverse City, Detroit's training camp home.
