SARATOGA SPRINGS -- It's My Day, a 3-year-old filly owned by Alex G. Campbell and trained by Robert Reinacher Jr., died after being injured in the Saratoga Race Course paddock prior to today's opener.
According to the New York Racing Association, It's My Day got spooked in the paddock, flipped and hit her head, fatally fracturing the base of her skull. She was not euthanized. Track workers moved her on to a tarp and loaded her to a waiting horse van.
Jockey Miguel Mena was taken to first aid with a minor leg injury. He was replaced by Jean-Luc Samyn aboard Talkhouse in the fourth race, Mena's only remaining mount today.
A daughter of Grand Slam out of the Deputy Ministser mare Dying Burns, It's My Day had one win and $23,937 in purses in seven career starts.
