Rats get reinforcements
Wednesday, November 12, 2008

The Carolina Hurricanes today reassigned forward Dwight Helminen to the River Rats, who host the Syracuse Crunch at 7 at the former Knickerbocker Arena.

Helminen, 25, was recalled by the Canes on Oct. 25 and made his NHL debut three days later at Montreal. He played the last eight games for Carolina with a goal and an assist, both coming Nov. 2 vs. the Toronto Maple Leafs.

At the time of his recall, Helminen led the Rats in scoring with two goals and two assists in six games. His return comes as Carolina activated rookie Brandon Sutter off injured reserve.

Also rejoining the Rats is defenseman Jonathan Paiement, who was recalled from ECHL Florida. Paiement, 23, was third on the Everblades in scoring and led all team defensemen with nine points (3-6) in nine games. He was also a plus-4.

As a reminder, all veterans and active military personnel will receive a free ticket to tonight’s game. Veterans should bring their military ID, American Legion or VFW card, or a copy of the DD214 form to the Rats’ office during regular business hours, or to the arena box office at least more than one hour prior to the game. There is a limit of one ticket per veteran.
