Three days after the Carolina Hurricanes signed Bryan Rodney to a two-way NHL contract, the Albany River Rats parent team inked another defenseman.

Other than the first trip around the track at Pimlico for Kentucky Derby winner Big Brown, it was a relatively quiet day on Old Hilltop.

Mike Gathagan, Pimlico's PR man extraordinare, just came through the press box and confirmed that there will be no additions or subtractions for Saturday's Preakness field.

Just got back from watching the Red Sox blow a 3-0 first-inning lead at Camden Yards and lose to the O's, 5-4. Ouch. At least the seats were great and the beer, uh, soda was cold.

After a year's hiatus, the Grade I Pimlico Special is back as the co-anchor of Friday's Preakness Eve card, along with the Black-Eyed Susan for 3-year-old fillies.
