Read at work
Wednesday, June 11, 2008

Every once in a while I stumble upon a Web site I need to share. I found this latest site last week and think it’s hysterical.

http://www.readatwork.com/ is sponsored by the New Zealand Book Council and is devoted to disguising pieces of classic literature as word documents or Power Point presentations.

When you go tho the site, you’re prompted to “sign in.” Once you’ve done so, you’re entire screen looks exactly like a Microsoft background.

The results are impeccable. I re-read a few chunks of "Animal Farm" in a Powerpoint-type file. I thought the different setup on each slide would bother me, but it was actually fun.

Right now, the books available are classics like Emily Dickinson’s "I Bring an Unaccustomed Mind" and Virginia Wolfe’s "The Mark on the Wall," but more works may be added soon.

I’m the first to admit sites like these are superfluous and silly, but they’re also fun. It’s a neat idea and I hope you check it out. Let me know what you think.
