The Albany Vegetarian Network is hosting a Vegetarian Expo from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday at the Saratoga Springs City Center.

The Expo is designed to promote the global health benefits of green and sustainable living, environmental awareness, and compassion for animals while highlighting a plant-based diet.

Admission and parking are free. There will be educational exhibits and nationally known speakers on animals, health, nutrition and green living. The event also includes free food samples, a children’s corner, book signings and food preparation demonstrations.

The Expo is organized by the Albany Vegetarian Network, a nonprofit volunteer organization promoting a vegetarian/vegan lifestyle.

Nature trail opening

ROTTERDAM — On Saturday, Sept. 13, the Rotterdam Sunrise Rotary Club will unveil new educational nature signs along the Mohawk Hudson Bike Hike Trail.

There will be a one-hour guided tour open to the public at 11 a.m., beginning at the Lock 8 parking area at the end of Rice Road in Rotterdam. The walk will be along the bike hike trail and is approximately 1.5 miles round trip.

The educational signs were a collaborative project between the Rotterdam Sunrise Rotary Club, ECOS: The Environmental Clearinghouse and the Town of Rotterdam. There are 30 educational markers identifying local plants and animals that can be seen along the trail. The artwork for the signs was donated by local artists Pauline Bono, Ann Jaster, Helen Steiner, Patricia Goodale, Betsy Kaufman and Reed Olsen.

The new signs provide a family-friendly experience using a combination of art and nature to increase awareness and appreciation of our local plants and animals.

Pollution prevention event

On Thursday, Sept. 18, the state Department of Environmental Conservation will host a Pollution Prevention Week celebration, open to the public, at DEC’s “green certified” building at 625 Broadway in Albany.
