An electronics recycling day held by B’nai Sholom Reform Congregation and eLot Recycling of Troy will offer Capital Region residents an environmentally friendly way to dispose of unused computers, televisions, copiers and other electronics.
The recycling day will be Sunday, May 18, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the parking lot at B’nai Sholom Reform Congregation, 420 Whitehall Road, Albany. Proceeds from the collection will benefit the B’nai Sholom Religious School.
For a minimum donation of $5 per car, eLot Recycling will collect and recycle computers, copiers, printers, scanners, fax machines, air conditioners, refrigerators, VCRs and DVD players, audio components and various household appliances.
To cover the cost to properly dispose of the toxic materials in televisions, there is an additional $10 fee for TVs and up to $30 for TVs with wood console paneling. All computers will have the hard drive data destroyed, in compliance with state and federal standards and repaired computers will be made available for further use.
A complete list of the items that eLot will accept for recycling can be found here.
Sandra Goldmeer, B’nai Sholom’s religious school director, noted that the Sunday date will make the recycling opportunity available to those in the Jewish community who observe Shabbat.
“Taking care of the environment in this way is not just a nice thing to do — it’s a mitzvah,” she said. “The electronics recycling day is a perfect way not only to educate our religious school students about taking care of the earth but to actively participate in it.”
eLot Electronics Recycling is a full-service e-cycling company focused on the recycling, de-manufacturing and selling of refurbished computers and electronics throughout the United States.
