NFL Picks, Week 17
Every year I participate in a Pigskin Pick ’em group organized by an obnoxious friend of mine from high school who spends his Sundays doing nothing but watching NFL football. I spend very little time watching football, and yet I continue to dream of beating him. And so every week I dutifully make my picks.
As always, the winning team is in caps.
CAROLINA PANTHERS at Atlanta Falcons - I’ve been really happy with the Falcons this season, and I’m not going to pick against them now.
Baltimore Ravens at the CINCINNATI BENGALS - Boy, the Ravens looked terrible last week against the Patriots. Hopefully they’ll look terrible this week against the Bengals.
Cleveland Browns at PITTSBURGH STEELERS - This hasn’t been a very good season for the Steelers, but they’ll look pretty good on Sunday, when they take on the woeful Browns.
Detroit Lions at MINNESOTA VIKINGS - The Lions are definitely a better team than the Vikings. But I just can’t bring myself to pick them. Not after last week, or the week before that.
Houston Texans at TENNESSEE TITANS - The Texans have only won two games this season. They won’t win a third.
Jacksonville Jaguars at INDIANAPOLIS COLTS - This is not a fair fight.
New York Jets at MIAMI DOLPHINS - Team Blowhard coach Rex Ryan appears to be a dead man walking. I actually feel a little sorry for him, as I kind of like Rex. But the Jets have had a lousy season, and the end result will be their coach’s termination.
Washington Redskins at NEW YORK GIANTS - The Giants have been pretty terrible this year. But they’ll look good against the most disappointing team in the league.
Buffalo Bills at NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS - This game could be close. But the Patriots will win.
GREEN BAY PACKERS at Chicago Bears - Green Bay QB Aaron Rodgers is back, which is why I’m picking the Packers to win.
DENVER BRONCOS at Oakland Raiders - Wouldn’t it be great if the Broncos lost? I don’t think it will happen. But wouldn’t it be great?
KANSAS CITY CHIEFS at San Diego Chargers - Kansas City has stumbled in recent weeks, and San Diego is on a bit of a winning streak. So the Chargers could win. But I don’t think they will.
St. Louis Rams at SEATTLE SEAHAWKS - The Seahawks should win this pretty easily.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at NEW ORLEANS SAINTS - The Saints aren’t very good at winning on the road. But they’re at home this week, and they’re playing a bad team.
San Francisco 49ers at ARIZONA CARDINALS - I was all set to pick the 49ers. Then I remembered that the Cardinals are actually good.
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES at Dallas Cowboys - It’s easy to make fun of Tony Romo. But he’s a good quarterback, and he’ll be missed this weekend, when the Eagles beat the Cowboys.
Last week’s results:
Me: 10-6 Overall: 150-89
My obnoxious friend: 10-6 Overall 155-84
