NFL Picks, Week 14
Every year I participate in a Pigskin Pick ’em group organized by an obnoxious friend of mine from high school who spends his Sundays doing nothing but watching NFL football. I spend very little time watching football, and yet I continue to dream of beating him. And so every week I dutifully make my picks.
As always, the winning team is in caps.
Houston Texans at JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS — Yes, the Jaguars are a better team than the Texans. And they’re playing at home. And they will win.
Atlanta Falcons at GREEN BAY PACKERS — Green Bay has struggled since losing QB Aaron Rodgers to injury. But not as much as the Falcons have struggled all season long.
Buffalo Bills at TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS — After a horrible start, Tampa Bay has found its footing. A team that once seemed unlikely to win any games this season will pick up its fourth win when it beats the Bills on Sunday.
Indianapolis Colts at CINCINNATI BENGALS — The Colts have some pretty impressive wins under their belt. They also have some head-scratching losses. It wouldn’t surprise me if they won this game. But I’m going with the Bengals.
Cleveland Browns at NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS — New England has a habit of falling behind and then winning in dramatic fashion in the final minutes. This week, for a change of pace, I’m hoping they jump to an early lead and maintain it for the rest of the game.
Detroit Lions at PHILADELPHIA EAGLES — Back in the early part of the season, the Eagles looked good. Then they looked terrible. Now they look good again. And on Sunday, when they beat Detroit, they’ll look even better.
KANSAS CITY CHIEFS at Washington Redskins — This has been a lost season for the Redskins, and they’ll lose again on Sunday.
Oakland Raiders at NEW YORK JETS — Team Blowhard has been struggling. But I don’t see any reason to pick the Raiders to win.
Miami Dolphins at PITTSBURGH STEELERS — This should be a pretty good game, between two evenly matched team. The Steelers will prevail, but it won’t be easy.
Minnesota Vikings at BALTIMORE RAVENS — The Ravens will move a bit closer to a playoff berth after beating the Vikings this weekend.
Tennessee Titans at DENVER BRONCOS — The Broncos looked very good against the Chiefs last week. They’ll look even better this week against a lousy Titans team.
St. Louis Rams at ARIZONA CARDINALS — The Cardinals are surprisingly good, and they’ll beat the mostly-hapless Rams without too much trouble.
New York Giants at SAN DIEGO CHARGERS — For a brief period, the Giants looked like they might be turning the corner. But that was an illusion.
SEATTLE SEAHAWKS at San Francisco 49ers — I actually think the 49rs can win this game. But I said I’d pick the Seahawks to win every game this season, and I’m sticking to it.
Carolina Panthers at NEW ORLEANS SAINTS — This should be an interesting game, because it will help answer one of this season’s most compelling questions: Just how good are the Panthers, really? My feeling is that they’re pretty good, but they’ll lose to New Orleans.
DALLAS COWBOYS at Chicago Bears — I have a hard time figuring out how either of these teams are going to do on any given Sunday. My guess is that the Cowboys will win, because they’re the better team, but who knows?
Last week’s results:
Me: 11-5 Overall: 119-72
My obnoxious friend: 11-5 Overall 121-70
