Gorp is always good on a hike, but you’ll probably want more than just trail mix if you’re planning on spending a weekend in the great outdoors. On Tuesday, May 11, at 7 p.m. the Adirondack Mountain Club will host “Food for the Backcountry” at the ADK headquarters at 814 Goggins Road in Lake George.
Avid backpacker and cookbook author Mary Holmes will show participants how to prepare, package and assemble great tasting meals that include meats, soups and salads for weekend backpacking as well as the extended trip. You will also learn how to adapt favorite recipes for the backcountry and save some money.
Holmes’ cookbook, “Feasting in the Wild Country” is based on the lessons she learned in more than 25 years of backpacking. One of her insights: You have to eat well or you won’t have any fun.
The program is free. Call 668-4447 for reservations and information. The ADK headquarters is handicapped accessible.
