Among the recent changes we've made to the print edition of the newspaper, the removal of the national weather map is the one to which readers have most vocally objected. I heard a few complaints about the end of color comics and problems finding the lottery results (they're on the back page of the local section), but most callers wanted to talk about the weather.
AccuWeather, our new weather provider, consequently has redesigned our weather package to include the map, some temperatures from cities around the nation and data on heating degree days.
To make the change, we eliminated some advertising space at the bottom of the page. It was a compromise that made sense given reader input.
Barring any last-minute complications, the new package should be in Wednesday's paper. And just in time; I hear there's a storm headed our way.
