Statement game for UAlbany women
Even though the University at Albany women's basketball team has already clinched the top seed for the America East Conference tournament next month at SEFCU Arena, Thursday night's game against Boston University still has meaning.
The Great Danes are unbeaten in conference play (12-0) and are 21-3 overall. BU is 12-1 in the league and 22-4 overall. Under normal circumstances, this game would be key for seeding in the tournament, but the Terriers are ineligible to compete because they are leaving for the Patriot League next season.
Certainly, BU would love to knock the Great Danes from the unbeaten ranks in league play, and the Terriers would love to prove that they would have been factors for the tournament title and the NCAA bid that comes with it if allowed to participate. UAlbany, on the other hand, would like nothing better than to keep rolling along with another victory and hand BU a loss in the final game between the two rivals, at least a members of this league.
The Great Danes don't want to let up on the throttle. They are the defending conference tournament champions, and they would like nothing better than to make another trip to the NCAA Tournament. Playing perennial power BU is just the right motivation to keep the Danes focused.
