Aeros moving to Iowa, Rivermen sale approved

The AHL on Thursday announced the Board of Governors has approved two franchise transactions.

The Houston Aeros, owned by the NHL's Minnesota Wild, will relocated to Des Moines, Iowa to play the 2013-14 season.

Also, the Board of Governors approved the sale of the Peoria Rivermen by the St. Louis Blues to the group that owns the NHL's Vancouver Canucks. There has been no decision on the fate of that AHL franchise other than the transfer of ownership, which means there is no word yet on where it will be located.

The theory is the Canucks would like to move the franchise to nearby Abbotsford, but that city already has the Heat, affiliated with the Calgary Flames. Calgary has said it has no intention of moving the Heat. Vancouver also is said to be relinquishing control of the Chicago Wolves to the Blues, but there has been nothing official on that yet.
