Audit cites $2 million in Medicaid overpayments

About $2 million in excess payments were made by the state's Medicaid program, according to a recent audit from the state Comptroller's Office.

The audit into the state's Department of Health, which administers Medicaid payments, covered a period between April 1, 2012 and Sept. 30, 2012. By the time the field work was completed by the comptroller's investigators, about 75 percent of the improperly distributed funds had been recovered.

A complete copy of the audit is available below.

During the period of the audit, the DOH's eMedNY computer system processed about 163 million claims resulting in payments to providers of about $25 billion.
