Working Women's Agenda from IDC

The Working Women's Agenda is long.

The 127-page bill from Independent Democratic Conference leader Jeff Klein, D-Bronx, came out late Sunday night (or maybe it was early Monday morning), following some cheerleading for the proposal last week. The bill deals with equal pay, paid maternity leave and help paying for child care, but not the abortion language in Gov. Andrew Cuomo's Women's Equality Agenda.

The full text of the bill is available below.

The IDC members and the Senate Republicans have been united in opposition to bringing the governor's equality package to a vote with the abortion plank attached. Additionally, there are a few anti-choice Senate Democrats who would likely oppose the package if it reached the floor with the abortion provision.

Introducing this bill seems to be a challenge to the governor to back down on the codification of abortion protections. With Cuomo previously indicating reluctance to advance a 9-point plan, the IDC bill could back him into a corner and force him to compromise.
