Senate sponsor for Levon Helm boulevard
Wednesday, February 27, 2013
Legislation to create a Levon Helm Memorial Boulevard has a sponsor in the state Senate.
Legislation was introduced in the Assembly last week to rename a stretch of state route 375, from where it intersects state route 28 in West Hurley to where it intersects state route 212 in Woodstock.
The Senate bill was introduced by Republican Sen. John Bonacic.
The Assembly legislation was introduced by Democrat Kevin Cahill. He said it was an honor to preserve Helm's legacy.
“Levon Helm was a true inspiration to not only millions of fans but our community,” he said in a news release. “His Rambles became a mainstay in the town of Woodstock, bringing back old soulful music worth listening to in a welcoming venue he created.”
