Candidates vying for the newly created 19th Congressional District have begun airing television advertisements to define who they are.
The 19th, which stretches across the southern part of the Capital Region and includes Schoharie and Rensselaer Counties, pits U.S. Rep. Chris Gibson, R-Kinderhook, against Ulster County Democrat Julian Schreibman. Even though Gibson is the incumbent, the district has vastly different boundaries because of redistricting and both candidates are still introducing themselves to the voters.
In Gibson's ad, which can be seen below, the focus is on his service. According to campaign spokeswoman Stephanie Valle, "Our first commercial highlights Chris's lifelong service and ability to help upstate New York businesses, farms, and families succeed."
The one-minute ad is very positive and tries to define Gibson and what he wants to do. It includes a handful of testimonials, including some kind words from his wife.
The ad airs in all four media markets that make up the district. It is the first in a series of ads that will be on the airwaves until Election Day.
The Schreibman ad, which can be seen below, focuses on his role as a federal prosecutor in Manhattan. The 30-second ad also turns its attention to Gibson, with Schreibman promising to do a better job protecting the middle class than his opponent.
The Schreibman ad will be seen in the Hudson Valley and Catskills region.
