Underdog congressional candidate on TV
Republican Congressional candidate Bob Dieterich is taking his message to television with a week left in the election season.
Dieterich, a Glenviller banker, is now on the air with a 30-second ad that can be seen below. He is running against U.S. Rep. Paul Tonko, D-Amsterdam, in the newly configured 20th Congressional District, which includes parts of Montgomery, Schenectady, Albany, Saratoga and Rensselaer counties.
"Many of you are as frustrated as I am," says Dieterich in the ad. He goes on to highlight his banking career, military service and family ties.
"We can do better," Dieterich says. "With your vote ... I'll bring a fresh approach to get this nation back on track and do what's right for all Americans."
The ad comes about a week after Tonko unveiled his television ad, which offers an extremely positive message. Unlike Dieterich's ad, which mentions his opponent once, Tonko's ad never really hints at the fact he has a challenger.
Neither ad has a hint of the negativity dominating ads to the north, in the 21st Congressional District, or to the south, in the 19th Congressional District, where races are believed to be a lot tighter.
In unveiling this ad to supporters, the Dieterich campaign is hoping to rally some last-minute contributions. Their fundraising has been completely dwarfed by the fundraising of Tonko.
"We are excited to release Bob's upcoming TV commercial ... but your immediate help is needed!!" reads the campaign email. "Please consider a donation so we can double our airtime."
