Poll finds 19th District House race closer
The Democratic challenger in the 19th Congressional District has narrowed the gap with the Republican incumbent, with one week to go before Election Day, according to a new poll.
U.S. Rep. Chris Gibson, R-Kinderhook, is leading Ulster County Democrat Julian Schreibman by five percentage points, according to the poll released today by the Siena Research Institute. This race is much tighter than it was in last month's poll, when Gibson had a comfortable 16-percentage-point lead.
A full breakdown of the recent poll is available below.
“Schreibman has solidified his base among Democrats and now does almost as well with them as Gibson does with Republicans," Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg said in announcing the poll results. "Gibson’s previous double-digit lead among independent voters has all but evaporated, with Gibson holding a slim two-point lead."
The 19th Congressional District includes Schoharie, Rensselaer and Montgomery counties.
