Schoharie student's farewell remarks

By David Lombardo
Saturday, June 23, 2012

The graduating seniors at Schoharie Central School made the right choice for class president based on her hilarious good-bye remarks during Saturday morning's graduation ceremony.

Katherine Farineau, who did a comedy routine with Skyler VanDerwerken early in the reception, as the co-salutatorians shared a speech, followed it up with a seven-minute speech as class president that had the audience in the packed high school gymnasium constantly laughing.

She gave personal shoutouts to members of the class, playfully mocked administrators onstage and made poignant remarks about the flooding that rocked the community's life last summer. Noting how most people are encouraged to make lemonade during tough times, Farineau joked that it was tough to make good tasting lemonade when you're using seven inches of water from Hurricane Irene.

The entire, somewhat shaky and hard to hear video of the speech, can be seen below.
