As mentioned in my last blog entry, my story about “anti-love” songs will be running in this Sunday’s Life and Arts section. Local musicians, music industry types and a few psychologists all weigh in on such classics as The Clash’s “Train in Vain,” The Beatles’ “Run for Your Life” and perhaps the quintessential anti-love song, J. Geils Band’s “Love Stinks.”
But what good is it to read about these songs if you can’t hear them for yourself? Well, you’re in luck — Chris Wienk and Dave Michaels over at WEXT-FM will be playing these songs and many, many more during the “Lonely Guys’ Ball,” which airs from noon to 6 p.m. on Friday. As an added bonus, none other than yours truly co-hosts the show. From angry breakup screeds from the likes of The Ramones and Led Zeppelin, to misery-filled, drown-in-your-sorrow tearjerkers from Hank Williams, these songs cover just about every emotion that a lonely, lovelorn soul feels come Valentine’s.
And while we’re on the subject of WEXT, this Saturday is Exit Dome THREE, and the lineup for this one is really killer — John Scarpulla, Matt Durfee, Alta Mira and the Ashley Pond Band are all on the bill. But best of all is the headliner, none other than local legends Blotto, reuniting once again for this special occasion. The show kicks off at 7 p.m. at WMHT Studios, 4 Global View in Troy.
