Saratoga Springs movie theater sets opening night date
A grand opening of the new Bow Tie Cinema Theater in Saratoga Springs will be held on Oct. 17, a Thursday.
The event will serve as a fundraiser for the Saratoga Hospital Community Health Center, so there will be a $75 fee per person to walk the red carpet. The celebration comes about one year after it was announced that Bow Tie would move into the space.
In last fall's announcement, the plan was to open the theater in the spring of 2013.
Red carpet arrivals start at 5:30 p.m. and there is a cocktail party at 6 p.m., according to an invitation. There will then be a "private showing of a new major motion picture."
This project was helped along with some tax breaks from the city that were secured last summer.
The city currently has no full-time theater and hasn’t since Joseph O’Hara’s dinner theater on Congress Street closed nearly a decade ago. The last traditional theater in the city, the Community Theater on Broadway, closed in the late 1970s.
The 11-screen Bow Tie Cinema complex is located where there used to be a Price Chopper supermarket, which was reconfigured with the cinema on the 34,000-square-foot first floor and 12,500 square feet of office space on each of the new second and third floors.
A centerpiece of the movie theater will be a BTX theater with a nearly 2,000-square-foot screen, a 30,000-watt digital sound system and leather rocking seats.
The specific address of the theater is 19 Railroad Place.
