Deputy mayor is likely Republican mayoral candidate

Deputy Mayor Shauna Sutton is vying for a promotion.

Sutton is expected to announce in the near future that she wants to be the Republican nominee for mayor of Saratoga Springs, according to two sources familiar with her decision.

Saratoga Springs Republican Committee Chairman David Harper wouldn’t comment on Sutton’s plans, but said a press advisory is scheduled to be released today.

The city’s Republican Committee is scheduled to interview candidates on May 13.

Sutton wouldn’t comment on a possible run, although she confirmed her plans to appear at press event on Wednesday. One of the sources said Sutton was expected to announce on Wednesday.

The Republican nomination is up for grabs after incumbent Mayor Scott Johnson, a Republican, announced in March that would not to seek a fourth term.
