County is under fiscal stress
The state Comptroller's fiscal monitoring system shows reasons for Saratoga County to be concerned.
Two dozen municipalities were designated as fiscally stressed, with Saratoga County receiving the second most severe distinction of "moderate stress."
A detailed report on Saratoga County is available below. The full list of grades can be found on the Capital Region Scene blog.
Comptroller's Office spokesman Brian Butry said Saratoga County's fund balance and history of operating deficits contributed to its grade. Additionally, he noted the county also had issues with its cash ratio, which was a common problem around the state.
Taken into consideration, though, was Saratoga County's positive employment figures and property values. “The county is doing better off than other places when it comes to some of those environmental factors," he said.
Despite this, Butry added, “This [moderate stress grade] paints a realistic picture of your numbers and your budgeting. It sounds the alarm on specific items in your budgeting”
