'The Jockey' returns

MALTA -- The local FM station will change its on-air identity, Empire Broadcasting Corp. President Joseph A. Reilly announced Monday.

The station, known as STAR 101.3 FM, will be known again as "The Jockey," Reilly said. That's a return to a name it bore 14 years ago, he said.

Reilly, who owned the station in the 1990s, purchased it from the Anastos Media Group last September.

"Racing is the heart and soul of Saratoga and so to rebrand the station as 'The Jockey' is a natural," Reilly said. "The area is very vibrant and growing every day."

He said that has prompted the station to provide more information, as well as music.

"Since we took over the stations in September, we've concentrated on being the source of all news, sports and community activities throughout Saratoga County," Reilly said.

Empire Broadcasting Corporation's network of stations includes WJKE 101.3 FM, WABY 1160 AM, WPTR 1240 AM. Two other Empire Broadcasting stations WUAM 900 AM & 106.1 FM are leased to Time Warner Cable for the simulcasting of TV 9 YNN News.
