Another $15,000 racing bet
Gansevoort resident Deborah White is hoping that some of Adam McNeill's luck from Saturday will rub off on her when she makes a $15,000 win bet on the $600,000 Alabama Stakes.
White is the latest person chosen to make a big bet, as part of this year's Saratoga 150 celebrations. The five $15,000 bets this summer are being funded by Marylou Whitney and husband John Hendrickson.
In a statement, Whitney said it was appropriate to have a woman make the bet in Alabama, which is a prestigious race for fillies.
White said in a statement that she was thrilled by the opportunity. "I am usually a $2 bettor, so win or lose, this will be exciting for me," she said. "I am hoping that lady luck will shine down on me and the fillies in the Alabama."
Last week's bettor for the Fourstardave Handicap was Adam McNeill, who bet $15,000 on the favorite and won. The bet paid $21,000.
A video of McNeill's lucky day is available below.
Despite picking the favorite in the race, he didn't have confidence that his bet was a sure thing. "It's horse racing, so you never know what could happen," McNeill said.
The promotion continues with the Travers Stakes on Aug. 24 and the Woodward Stakes on Aug. 31.
