There's a battle 'brewing'
Wednesday, August 26, 2009

The 12th annual “Battle of the Brews” will be held from noon until 4:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at Saratoga Race Course to Benefit the Adirondack Saratoga Chapter of the American Red Cross.

The fundraising event is coordinated by World Class Beverages, a division of DeCrescente Distributing Co.

Because of the popularity and growth of this fundraiser, the event location within the track is moving from the ”Big Red Spring” area to a more spacious area just inside the track's main entrance off of Union Avenue.

Nineteen micro-breweries from around the region will offer samples of their brews for race fans to taste and vote on. Participating breweries include: Samuel Adams, Blue Moon, Saranac, High Falls Brewing Co., Sierra Nevada Brewing Co, Magic Hat Brewing Co, Harpoon Brewery, Brooklyn Brewery, Long Trail Brewing Co, Woodchuck Cider, Otter Creek Brewing Co., Brewery Ommegang, Olde Saratoga Brewing Co., Switchback Brewing, Boulder Beer, Ithaca Beer, Anchor Brewing, Black Dog and Pete’s Brewing Co.

Sponsors of this year’s event include Great Escape and Splashwater Kingdom, Saratoga National Bank and Trust Co., DA Collins Companies, and Pompa Bros. Inc.

Judges will be provided by the Saratoga Thorobrews Home Brewing Association. Tickets for the event are $25 per person which includes a commemorative glass. Attendees must be 21 years or over to participate and are encouraged to drink responsibly. A list of area taxi-cab contact information will be available.

Those wishing more information on tickets or sponsorships may call the American Red Cross Adirondack Saratoga Chapter at 518-792-6545 or email reehlc@usa.redcross.org.
