Family snowshoe outing in the mountains

The Adirondack Mountain Club will hold a Family Snowshoe Day on Saturday, Feb. 12, a chance to snowshoe on the edge of the scenic High Peaks.

ADK will conduct the event on the trails on its Heart Lake property, just south of Lake Placid at the end of Adirondack Loj Road, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The club said it will provide the snowshoes and instruction for a guided hike around the property, and guides will share bits of natural history, including animal tracking and winter ecology information.

The cost will be $35 for adults and $12 for children 6-15 years old. Children under 6 are free. For ADK members, the price is only $30 for adults and $10 for kids. The price includes parking at the Adirondak Loj.

For more information, people can contact ADK Outdoor Leadership Coordinator Ryan Doyle at 523-3480 Ext. 19, or send him an e-mail at For more information about ADK and its outdoor programs and workshops, visit the ADK website by clicking HERE.
