Weekend lift rides to begin at Gore Mountain

In a sure sign that foliage season is just around the corner, weekend lift rides at Gore Mountain will start this weekend and continue through Columbus Day weekend.

The Hudson Chair at the North Creek Ski Bowl will be open for scenic rides and mountain biking this weekend, Aug. 27-28. The Hudson Chair is close to downtown North Creek, not far from the train station. It offers views of the village, the Hudson River, Moxham Mountain and the Vanderwhacker Forest. There will be a shuttle bus between the train depot, where trains now run from Saratoga Springs, and the chair base.

Then, for all Saturdays and Sundays from Sept. 3 to Oct. 9, the Northwoods Gondola will be running up the main face of Gore Mountain from the base lodge, offering hiking and biking opportunities. There will be shuttle bus service from the train depot to Gore Mountain.

Special events tied to the weekends the gondola lift is open include "Yoga in the Adirondacks Retreat, Sept. 4; free gondola rides, hiking, and mountain biking to all 2011/12 season pass-holders on Sept. 10-11; downhill biking camp on Sept. 17; photography camp led by Adirondack photographer Carl Heilman II on Sept. 24; and a 5-K run on Oct. 1.

On Oct. 8-9, Columbus Day weekend, Gore Mountain will hold its annual Harvest Fest. The free-admission family event offers live entertainment all weekend, Adirondack vendors, helicopter rides, and other activities. Bands will include Raisinhead and The Ernie Williams Band.
