The Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake will participate in a statewide effort to raise awareness about domestic violence this Saturday, Oct. 3.
Across the state, purple lights will be illuminating landmarks to raise awareness about domestic violence in every county, and the museum will be representing Hamilton County. Its contribution will be training light on the historic fire tower that once stood atop Whiteface Mountain, and is now at the museum.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness month in New York state, and the state Office for Prevention of Domestic Violence is asking for a show of purple in every county, to represent awareness. Organizers say the color purple stands for efforts to stop violence.
On Oct. 3 -- the opening day of the museum's Harvest Festival -- visitors will be greeted with purple balloons, staff will wear purple ribbons, and at dusk the fire tower will be illuminated.
