If you're looking for a good mountain to hike with this kids this weekend, Sleeping Beauty in Fort Ann is a great choice.
The trail had a few muddy spots last weekend but was in relatively good shape and the view from the top, overlooking Lake George, was spectacular as always. It's a popular hike, so expect to share the expansive summit with other families.
In the past, the narrow road from the main parking lot to the trailhead has been tricky to drive even in summer because of ruts and boulders. But the state has clearly worked on the road and I'd venture to say any car could drive over it now.
To get to the trailhead: take Route 149 east, turning left onto Buttermilk Falls Road, which becomes Sly Pond Rd. Bear left on Shelving Rock Rd.
