Isn't Schenectady the only school who decided they wouldn't assign homework because the kids didn't want to do it? Poverty is no excuse. I lived in extreme poverty along with extreme abuse and alcoholic parents. I decided to make something of my life and I have. And those with parents sitting home and collecting welfare should have even better grades. Their parents should always be there to ensure they are learning, otherwise they are just raising another generation of welfare recipients. They should want better for their kids and be teaching that to them. Instead their kids are running wild and making it unsafe for law abiding citizens to walk the neighborhoods. Mt Pleasant was a nice neighborhood when I was growing up and now you can't walk through there in the middle of the day.

Poverty is no reason to fail or not graduate. I lived in extreme poverty and graduated high school and college. My 26 year old has a college degree, my 17 year old has her first year of college completed and my 16 year old is also on track to have a college degree. I don't care how much or how little money you have if you raise your kids right they won't be running the streets and will graduate. It doesn't cost anything to raise a child with basic respect and morals. That is what many of these kids are missing today.

Oops.... sorry. Schenectady is a GREAT school and I'm so sorry my daughter can't go to school there. Yes, that's sarcasm.

Nothing like setting these kids up for failure. And they wonder why parents don't want their kids in the Schenectady school system. My daughters a senior in Schalmont and has a scholarship already in place, and knows the value of homework and studying. This attitude is exactly why I wouldn't consider buying a house in Schenectady. If the kids want to be failures Schenectady will help them. The city has done nothing but go in the toliet since I grew up there. So sad.

More police officers just walking? How do they get to emergency calls quickly? How do you convince an uncooperative prisioner to walk to where you would like them to go? Yup, radical thinking.

Oh please... my nephews are in speial ed because they are simply to lazy to do the work and my sister is to lazy to force them. I've been staying there sine September and I have yet to see either boy bring home work even once. They stay up all night playing video games and she doesn't "feel like" arguing with them. Neither one should be in speial ed.

Why do we have to hire someone just because they are a minority? I want the best person for the job hired not which color worker I am ordered to hire. Is there truely a minority out there any more?

Melanie Trimble fears that legitimate complaints won't be made for fear of arrest.... to bad!!! She wants them to just weed out the lies. Why?? Is that what we want to teach kids now a days, lie and lie some more and if you get caught there will be no punishment for it. Don't lie and you won't be arrested for it. Everyone knows that there are cameras and recordings now. Police need to be able to conduct their jobs and make an arrest based on a warrant without fears of false allegations against them. Time for the pubic to grow up and act like responsible adults and treat the police officers with the same respect they want the officers to treat them with. If the officer she has a child with is smart he'll take custody of the child away too. I can imagine what she's teaching that child when she's mad at the father if she's willing to go to this extent.
