Excuse me, but this Mike Connors is a COMPTROLLER? Please tell me he is strictly administrative, and they don't let him make any decisions involving numerical calculations.

Let's review his "splash mix" formula. He claims in the article: "[Recently] I put in 17 gallons [of regular unleaded gasoline] and then I put in 11.33 gallons of E85 in, which will give me approximately 7.7 gallons of ethanol." First of all, 7.7 gal of ethanol in a total of 28.3 gal of mix would be 27.2%, which is way more than a standard vehicle is capable of handling without internal damage to the engine eventually.

But what about his math? E85 is 85% ethanol, right? So 85% of 11.33 gal of E85 contains 9.63 gal of ethanol & 1.70 gal of regular gasoline. And 9.63 gal of ethanol in a total of 28.33 gal mix is 34% ethanol!

So, to the question "Are you smarter than a 5th Grader?", Mike Connors can unequivocally say "No. I don't have a clue about simple math." Mike, I sure hope you aren't ruining a government vehicle with this mix. BTW, what ARE you driving that has a tank bigger than 28 gallons capacity?
