It doesn't take a rocket scientist to contrast the reality of Mr. Gage and the non-reality of Mr. Khuner. If the next national administration continues the rediculous non-energy policy of the 8 years of the Beverly Hillbillies led by Jethro than our standard of living will continue to decline. There is no reason to expect our survival as a nation if we continue to subsidize the excessive cost of oil with our endless military involvement coincidental with the failure to fix the infrastructure of our country. I urge immediate identification of all domestic sources of oil to be made public not secreted by a Presidency of incompetency. Then the difficult decisions must be made. Unemployment, bridge callapses, turning our once great nation into a Weimar Republic. Bring the viewpoints public and let us engage in meaningful debate. How much environmental damage was done in the Gulf due to Katrina? The answer is none. It is becoming apparent that the wealthy environmentatists do not want a National Energy Policy debate or even one at all. I want an end to the endless war in Irag as envisoned by Upton Sinclair designed to paly on our emotions without basis in reality. The bottom line, time to drill in every domestic probable source of oil, NOW!. If this isn't done soon it will not be the United States anymore but this nation will become Yugoslavia.
Certainly makes sense to those that pay the bills. Of course those that live off those that pay the bills like to keep their lifestyle. Now there's this village called Scotia that enjoys duplication of services better performed by the Town. It's one of those laws of public economics that the bigger the tax base the less it costs each taxpayer. The irony is that as an expatriate of NYC the entire County of Schenectady is the size of the neighborhood I emigrated from. Funny that the consolidation of NYC in 1898 did wonders for the success of NYC, including the economic support for the rest of NY.
There is a strong relationship to the desirability of a community and the quality of their public school system. There seems to be an inconsistency when Charter Schools are required. People vote two ways, one at the ballot box and the other with their feet. One of the major exports of Schenectady is talented people leaving and being replaced by people with greater needs. Look at the wonderful transformation of downtown Schenectady. Perhaps an intensive look at Schenectady County Public education on a performance basis is required by asking those that do the job how to fix the problems. There is nothing wrong with private education but there is obviously something wrong with public education in Schenectady County that must be repaired!
Instead of raising fees and driving the tax base away the best alternative would be to remove the impediments from the previous Administration. Specifically there are literally Billions of Dollars in fiscal recovery of bogus Medicaid claims paid to ineligible persons. Lets get rid of those responsible for this nonsense and start to recover bogus NY Medicaid claims. Have we forgotten about the recovery of Medicaid fraud mentioned in the Governor's first State of the State Message so soon? It's hardly a difficult task, we know where the fraud is!

On Op-ed column: U.S. must tap its own oil resources or face even greater energy crisis
