First off, Dr. Chim Richolds, up until a few months ago I had never met anyone with my birthday. Since August, I've met three. I thoroughly enjoy my post-Christmas birthday. I've never had school and normally just lie around my house in a sugar coma.
And Johnnyboy, I woke up yesterday so excited! I knew the outcome before I went to the polls and that was fine. Because yesterday we saw democracy in action! It's the coolest feeling in the world to know that you have say on what direction we go in. We live in the greatest country. It's something that my parents taught me and I will always carry with me.
Grant18, I'm going to try to make a new friend this evening at a post-election dinner.
This is Elizabeth. I firmly believe a "safe" library is a library where people have access to all sorts of books and feel comfortable asking for them.
Books should be accessible in libraries. Parents can monitor their own children's reading. What you think is inappropriate for your child is not inappropriate for everyone.
I understand what you're saying and the numbers are definitely on your side. My generation doesn't follow the news as closely as we should.
I just get frustrated sometimes that we're portrayed as sex-crazed, celebrity obsessed teenie-boppers. When I look at my peers (and I admit my group of friends is rather extraordinary) I see kids who implement summer reading programs, volunteer on political campaigns and build houses in West Virginia. I think sometimes we forgot about the kids like my friends.
Hi, It's Elizabeth. You're definetley right. Google is a jumping off point, a place to get your feet wet. Bu, there are other more thorough sources, if you need more extensive information.
This is Elizabeth. I appreciate your willingness to comment and encourage a discussion, but I feel you missed my point completely. My sole point in this piece was to say everyone (including the Sons of Confederate Soldiers and the NAACP) has the right to free speech.
I cited National Socialist Party of America v. Skokie solely because the Supreme Court determined in this case that everyone has a right to free speech, regardless of their ideology.
I was hurt by your accusation I stand for censorship. As the Editor-in-Chief of my school paper I've fought the forces of censorship (and won) quite a few times. For you to state anything to the contrary is simply untrue.
I, like Jumbo11, don't quite understand why you brought up Holocaust doctors or the fact the Lincoln was a Colonizationist. Believe it or not, I've read a great deal of Lincoln's writings and understand pretty thoroughly his thoughts on race.
Finally, I stand by my assessment that the Confederate flag has nothing to do with Niskayuna. Niska-Day was a day created for our town to come together and celebrate its history, not Mount Kisco's.
I want to thank sbettlycos. My Latin teacher will be ashamed that I couldn't spell terrific. I've taken Latin for four years now, and I find its expanded my vocabulary, but hasn't made me a terrific speller yet (in fact, I just spelled terrific wrong twice.)
Mizeki- thanks for the history lesson. I'm writing a paper right now on the evolution of language and will definitely do more research on this.
This could have written by me. In a lot of ways I've shunned the classic "high school experience." But looking back on it, it won't be the prom that I miss. I will miss those nights I spent doing nothing with my friends, instead of doing things like going to the prom.
I love Carl Hiassen and Dave Barry. If you like him, you might want to try Bill Bryson. I just got into his books. I read "The Life and Times of Thunderbolt Kid," and it was hysterical. I'm now reading "A Walk in the Woods." I think I might do one on cd by him next.
