Luries vacuum tube! I remember that well. How about Mortans mens store, Tony Brooks music shop, and my favorite, The Hobby Shop. Of course Trask Cigar Store, and for awhile Mikes Giant Submarine Sandwich's. There was a restaurant on the north side, maybe between Church and Liberty? Anyone remember the name?
I have many fond memories growing up and shopping "Downtown" back in the 60's.Noon time on Saturday they would test the siren on the Bank Building. And always getting caught up in those old trolly tracks! The Railto, The Tryon Theatres...there was one more. I remember a bowling alley around Market and Main. Christmas shopping was a special time in Downtown Amsterdam too.
Does anyone remember what year the Mohigan Market burned?

I remember skating at the rink at the Guy Park Avenue School, which is now the Walter Elwood museum. The city public works would either plow the playground, or a local parents, and then firehoses were used to flood the rink.
The school basement was opened for warming too. I think many neighborhoods did the same. One of the best was at Fort Johnson, it was the biggest, they had music, refreshments, bon fire...a good time
